Last year’s Minutes

Minutes of the 2016 AGM, held on 17th March 2017 having now been posted on the Club’s website where read in full and then Proposed by David Still and Seconded by Bernie Hoey as a full and faithful record.

 Matters arising

  1. ‘ready golf’, and avoiding slow play at outings.  Main points to be added to website.
  2. Competitions incomplete.  It is made aware that finals haven’t been played, but the weather (snow) has made it difficult.
  3. Outings.  A list of past outing venues was printed and handed out to assist with choices for this years outings (to be pondered during the evening).
  4. flyers.  Gavin had flyers made up to raise awareness of the staff club, and hopefully encourage new members.  Dave agreed to put one at Ross Priory, and other members will place on suitable noticeboards.

Secretary’s Report:

Ancient Universities Golf Match

The 78th Scottish Ancient Universities match took place on 5th & 6th April 2017.

Glasgow team: Ian Salt (Captain), Alistair Bonnington, Chris Taylor, Neil Bulleid, Ian Reid, and Derek from Aberdeen in a deadline day loan move.

Round 1 at Montrose GC, then retired to the burn for evening meal and a glass of Ian Salt ‘firewater whisky’ from his very own cask.  Followed by Round 2 at Edzell GC.

Final Result:  Aberdeen 8.5 vs Glasgow 3.5.

 Senate Match

The Senate Match was played on 9th June 2017 at Cruden Bay Golf Club.  With both teams kitted out in Aberdeen Asset sponsored caps, and with the gift of a miniature whisky and 3 prov1 soon to be set free on the bay, both teams were raring to go.

Glasgow team : Iain Thayne (Captain), Bernie Hoey, Alistair Bonnington, John Oliver, Ian Salt, Anne Terry, Anne Cumberland, and Chris Taylor.  Wins for Bernie (great scoring) Anne Cumberland (usual 8 and 7 victory), and Chris Taylor, but not enough to beat the might of Aberdeen. Thanks to Aberdeen captain Jamie weir who done a great job bringing the event together along with our own captain Iain thayne, and Aberdeen Asset Management,

Final Result:  Aberdeen 5 vs Glasgow 3

 East v West

The match was played at Glen Bervie on 29th August 2017

Glasgow team: Chris Taylor (Captain), Bernie Hoey, Ian Gardner, Anne Terry, Brian Eden, Ian Reid, Jim Steele, and David and Moira Still.

Finally!! A victory for a Glasgow team as we retained the trophy for the ‘West’.  The match got off to the worst start possible with a ‘tanking’ in the morning fourballs.  After some soul searching and a bit of name-calling at lunch, the troops were ready to take on the might of the ‘East’. The afternoon saw Glasgow unleash it’s secret weapons of Bernie and ian gardner (who were playing gents final in the morning). In a comeback to surpass ‘The miracle of Medinah’, the ‘West played a blinder in the afternoon winning almost all the singles ties and somehow making a clean getaway with the trophy.

Thanks to Edinburgh for a great match, and Duncan for organising such a successful event.

Morning Fourballs: West 0 v 4 East.

Afternoon Singles: West 6.5 v 1.5 East.

Final Result:  West 6.5 v East 5.5
